So we don’t eat a lot of dairy around here. When we do, I try to do raw milk and cheese when it’s available. And when it’s not, and I want to use cheese in something, I at least go for some organic stuff, with no antibiotics, hormones or pesticides. I have always steered clear of processed cheeses like American because of the fact that it’s really not even “cheese.” Did you know in the United States, it may not be legally sold as “cheese“, and must be labeled as “processed cheese“, cheese “product”, or similar—e.g., “cheese food” (Wikipedia)? It’s just not real cheese. Imagine my surprise when I received a sample of Organic Valley’s unprocessed American singles to try! The only ingredients are: Organic pasteurized cultured milk, salt, organic annatto, microbial enzymes. And of course, they use no antibiotics, hormones or pesticides. Not bad for a pre-packaged food! But would the taste stand up to the idea?
I have to say, I was pleased! The flavor was great, and it was obvious that these were real cheese slices. The texture was a bit dry, but these were excellent melted onto burgers! Deeee-lish! And the added convenience of having these pre-sliced was definitely worth the bit of sacrifice in texture.
Having a BBQ? Keep some of these babies on hand, and you’ll have some very happy guests! Check out Organic Valley’s Facebook page to stay in the loop about all their other great products.
Now on to the good part: Who wants to win some of this cheese? Or any Organic Valley product??? And not just one, but FOUR?! That’s right! One of you lucky readers is going to win FOUR coupons for any Organic Valley product!
